|
My darling daughter, Diva, has crispy skin on the front of her neck. The rest of her skin is fine, and feels lovely to pat, but the front of her neck is kinda crispy, and cracked and flaking. She is an old lady so I am very keen to make her as comfortable as possible as quickly as possible.
I can not get any medication for her to take as yesterday we discovered she has a heart murmur and is on an intensive course of meds for her heart.
Any suggestions of what may help? I was thinking maybe baby lotion? |

You may want to try very carefully a little coconut oil or sesame oil and make sure there is no allergic or skin reaction. Or you could try a moisturizing lotion with minimal ingredients and make sure that she is unable to lick it off.
I try to stay with "edible oils" because of licking so there are no problems with ingestion of ingredients. However, if it is in an area where she cannot reach, you can experiment a bit more.
I want to wish you and Diva good luck with her meds and hope that she responds well to them. |

I try and be careful with the moisturizers depending on the pup. Since you know your girl pretty well, i guess you would know what would bother her. After baths, I recently started using Eucerin - the really thick original kind that comes in a jar - on a rescued older girl who just has very rough thick skin still and on a xolo with dreamy soft skin that gets dry and is sensitive to vegetation. Both are doing very well with it. It does have lanolin in it though. Otherwise I am using Kukui Oil - either straight oil or the cream - it's very fine and absorbs nicely (link below since I see you are in Australia). The cream would probably be ideal for spot treatment if it isn't in a spot she is going to lick.

| My hl, Tre' gets that crinkly dry skin that you're talking about and a little coconut oil periodically does help him. |
