The breeder of the puppy I collect tomorrow has told me that all crested are allergic to beef, is this so? It's a pity if it as I have a freezer full of it.
Cheers

That is NOT true. But perhaps his/her cresties are? Be sure to get this clarified. If that is the case then don't feed your dog beef. Allergies and allergic tendencies can be passed on genetically. And usually when you hear stattements like this - it seems to me that the breeder doesn't want to look irresponsible breeding dogs with known allergies. At least you will know rather than going through heck figuring an allergy out.
I have one little rescue mix (non CC) who cannot tolerate beef or pork - gets IBD symptoms. Fortunately he was never feed this in his kibble or topper in my home for the last year and a half, and I only found out by giving him something extra - so it was never an issue. I had 3 of my nekkie dogs serum allergy tested and none were allergic to beef BTW. But every dog is different.

i have read that the top allergies in All breeds are Corn, Chicken, Beef, Wheat and Soy. I have read that some cresteds are also allergic to Lamb, altho i fed my puppy lamb for the first 6 months. All my dogs get a fish based food and i give them all biscuits that are either fish or Venison or buffalo. it is hard to find treats that do not have chicken or beef.
Abby has IBD, and Polly is allergic to chicken and possibly other things. Pixie does not seem allergic to anything, but i already feed my other 2 dogs the fish based food, so why not? |

I know that I have seen Crested breeders bait show dogs with little pieces of steak before and chicken so maybe in moderation and watch your dog to see how it goes with the protein source. Every breed has some known protein "allergens" and I think in most cases it is a sensitivity rather then a true allergy.
I would ask the breeder to be more specific do they recommend you do not feed beef as a regular meal or do they mean never feed the dog beef. |

| Beef and Milk are the top two allergies in all dogs, I believe. After that comes the grain allergies. |

| Statistically the most common allergens over the record keeping time frame (ie past years) are going to be what dogs were fed in the PAST. And not relevant to your pup per se. Nowadays many pups are allergic to lamb and rice for example rather than beef and wheat as commercial diets have changed drastically even the poorest grade formulas. |

my crested eats beef, either raw or in kibble form(evo red meat). he IS allergic to chicken, and all grains.
my bully is very allergic to fish, and to all but the most uncommon grains, and sensitive to lamb.
red meat based food is a safe food for both dogs, as i really don't feel like buying and feeding them different foods. |

All three of mine eat beef with no problem. High quality very lean hamburger is the main protein of their home cooked diet.
It depends on the individual dog and as Hlboyz said, ask the breeder specifically if his/her dogs have allergies to beef and then experiment carefully.
But I also found that foods my boy could not tolerate when younger and would cause skin breakouts, do not now that he has a fully functional mature immune system. |
