And Mom freaked out about it, a bit.
See, here's what happened. Wednesday evening, we went to visit Josie. It was kinda hot and sticky, so Mom and Josie's mom were sitting on the swing, and Josie and I were doing a little zoomies, but mostly just sniffin' stuff. Across the street, there were some men digging in the road--I bet somebody got real mad at them about that!--and I was checking them out some.
Then a man walked by on our side of the street, just outside the fence. He was obviously a nice guy, so I decided to go say hello to hm. But the gate was closed, so I jumped over the fence. That was the logical thing to do, right?
Now, it's true my collar got caught for a second, but ir released, so no problem, right? And even Mom says that the little scrapes on my belly are nothing, really. As soon as she opened the gate and called me, I came back to her, and it's not like I lost my collar, it was righ there on the ground outside the fence.
So why is Mom telling me I can't play off-leash in Josie's yard anymore? What's the problem?

Addy jumping is good but let me tell you jumping over fences out of yards is scary for mommies ...my mom freaked out once when my human kid buddy let go my leash and I ran next door to greet Joe and Mary our neighbours ....they live close by but Mommy did not like that ever since then SHE held my leash outside ....so you see ??My mom would feel the smae way ...and Addy some people steal dogs and stuff you really don't know WHO these strangers are you gotta ask mom first and she would have walked you to him .Not to mention Addy...CARS!!! My mom told me about her aunty's dog who died from being killed by a car all because she ran in the road 
Next time Addy ask ya momma she loves you and this scared her ...you are her baby you know???
Just ask next time and she will open the gate
Oh and until your mommy regains her nerves she might try off leash again but she migt have to do some training with you first thats what mom had to do with me...teach me "stop" command .

Addy we are not allowed offleash either because Davinia scares mommy. Even here with our own backyard mommy still takes us on walkies because she can't see us if we run under the bushes and Davinia likes to go right up to the fenceline which mommy can't always see plus she is faster then mommy and the yard is very BIG and we can get under the fence in places so it really scares mommy. I am much better then Davinia and I don't run as fast or as far and will come to mommy if she calls me to her with a treat. Davinia is too distracted and just can't do it.
Even at the dog park we have to stay in the little dog area even though I could play with the bigger dogs and just hang out Davinia would be tearing around the place and wouldn't come back to mommy until she was good and tired. Talkign about the dog park we wanna go do you think you could put in a good word so our mommy will take us again?
If we all learned to stop scaring our mommies and bahved like proper babies I think we would all have more freedom. |

Haley, people steal dogs?! Take them away from their moms and dads?!  That's really scary!
Maybe I will have to be more careful about dashing up to strangers without asking Mom!
Indiana, I'm like Davinia--I dash right up to fences, and I run really fast, and I think it's fun to find holes through or under things that Mom didn't know were there. Or go over things.
So I guess it's my own fault that Mom says on-leash walkies only now.
Hey! Stella has a bigger fence around her yard! Maybe I can talk Mom into letting me visit Stella more often! And if Mom wants to do more training--well, training's pretty fun. That would be okay.
And maybe this agility thing--Puccini says it's a lot of fun. Maybe we can do that, if I'm good.

Why would any of you run away from your mommy? I always run to my mommy. I can out run her so daddy and I run on the beach but I always have to stop and turn around so I can go get mommy. I MUST know her where abouts AT ALL TIMES!!!!! Ohhhh, Theia wants to run around the couch, gotta go!!!

My goodness, there are people who steal doggies from their mommies and daddies? Like, snatch them up and don't ever bring them home again? That's awful.
My grammy has a little yard with a fence, and someone inconveniently put stuff in all the spots where I used to get out and cruise the neighbohood. I guess that was done on purpose, I think Addy told me that.
I like lying outside in the yard, and I also like the dog park. We haven't been in ages, Mommy says it's too hot. Plus, I like to yap at the other dogs there. Mommy says I need to learn a few more manners, and she feels guilty because she hasn't taken as much time with me as she would like. I say, what's wrong with my manners now? I think I'm fine. It is fun when she pulls out that clicky thing and I can make her give me treats by sitting and stuff, though.
My sister Brownie is like you, Socrates. She always has to know where Mommy is, and always likes to be right next to her. I don't always come when she calls, but I don't run away when she comes to get me, either. I just stop and stand there, waiting for her. I can play outside in the yard, and at the dog park without my leash, but nowhere else.
Let me know if you figure out how to get your mommy to let you off leash to check things out. There's lots of times I'd like to investigate a spot way more than Mommy wants me to, and when she's holding the leash, well, she decides when we're coming or going.
If I could figure out a way to get her to give me some treats for walking beside her, I might consider it. Maybe I'll work on that.
Oh, and Addy? I think girls who can jump high are hot!
