|
Just a week after the sudden loss of Yoda, Dewey succumbed to what was likely lymphoma. He had been sick for a few months. The last time I saw him was, of course, when I went back to the old house to bury Yoda.
I wrote a poem for Dewey, too. He and Yoda had been constant rivals in life. We buried him next to Yoda and, as I had for Yoda, I read the poem aloud that day.
Not a day goes by when I don't think of him, and Yoda, too. Dewey was one of those very special dogs that you know you'll never meet again and I miss him all the time. Here is his poem:
For Dewey
Little guy, doowinkle, diddle-bug, licking-nose
your names were as many as the songs you inspired.
Smartest of all dogs, spring-loaded jumping bean,
trickster, defiant,
standing your ground in the yard, or prancing around a treat
you were a joy.
It's a sad day that comes when
we have to say a final goodbye to you,
you who were nothing but love,
you whose twinkling eyes inspired the notion that
dogs do have love.
Always the rival of your father
It shouldn't have surprised us that
you'd not let him have the last say this time.
And I like to think that, wherever dogs go,
you and Yoda have found your own lasting peace
together there, as you will now be together, always, here.
Little diddles,
it's really too hard to say goodbye to you.
I love you, little guy. |

| Nope, they never are. I know it's corny but somehow it helps to put a little tribute here. Thanks! |

| Such loss when a pet leaves we humans behind. It is such a tribute to them that we learn to love enough to open our hearts to another. |

Thanks everyone.
Yup, it was a very tough time, but times have a way of changing and, thankfully, things have changed a lot.
I do miss my babies terribly, but life goes on, and I am just grateful I was eventually able to provide a good home for Louie. He truly is the light of my life. |

Hi, Laura, Dewey's "aunt" Honey died this AM in Conway, SC.
I keep making posts about Dhyanna/Edie, who was his mother. I hope she is OK and still with us. Better yet, I hope she is happy, but the last I heard Dhyanna had a good home.
Still, it doesn't stop me from thinking about her.
I hope all is well with you

| Little Dewey, I miss you so much. It's been another year, and then some, and the pain gets a little easier to bear, but never goes away. Run free, my little boy. |
