|
Alright, here are some pics of my geckos. I'll type the name and morph for each of them.
All my geckos are named either after a song, a name mentioned in a song, or a musician.
This is Piper (Piper at the Gates of Dawn-Pink Floyd). She's a Revere Stripe Tremper albino and she's 66% het RAPTOR.
This is Isobel (song by Bjork). She is the same morph as Piper, only she's 100% het RAPTOR.
This is Professor Orye (character in a Nick Cave song). He's my prettiest baby, and if I picked my favorite by looks alone, he'd be it. I LOVE him. He's an Enigma that is 66% het RAPTOR and 100% het Eclipse.
This is Godzuki (song by Sufjan Stevens). He's a Tremper Enigma 100% het RAPTOR.
This is Joplin (after Janis Joplin). She's a Super Hypo Tangerine Carrot Tail Baldy.
This is Cotten (after folk musician, Elizabeth Cotten). She's a high yellow. She was the first gecko I bought for myself. Cotten earned herself the nickname "Rotten Cotten" because she was HELL when I first got her. She took FOREVER to settle into her new home, and she used to run out of her hide and try to attack the temp gun whenever I would check temps in her enclosure.
This is Major Tom (Space Oddity- David Bowie). He's one of the normal het for nothing babies that I produced last year. This year I'll be breeding my normal het nothing geckos because the leopard gecko gene pool needs some cleaning up since it's so messed up due to all the morphs they have now.
This is Aladdin Sane (David Bowie song). Because he IS insane.
Crazy gecko.
I need to get recent shots of Jethro, my bell albino. And my four other normal het nothing 9 year old adults, Monkey, Bear, Ursula, and Lizzie.
Here's my rhacodactylus geckos:
This is Re-loo (a phrase from Joanna Newsom's "This side of the Blue").
She's a gargoyle gecko.
She's the devil. But I love her anyway.
This is Meddle (Pink Floyd album). She's a crested gecko. She's very shy, so I do not get many pics of her.
This is Ummagumma (Pink Floyd album). She's also a Crested Gecko.
This is Eli Chimbley (combination of songs by The Decemberists). Crested Gecko.
This is Hunky Dory (David Bowie album). Crested Gecko.
And this is my Crackity Jones. He was my first crested gecko.
This was Crackity Jones as a wee gecko. This picture won me a really nice incubator.
It's also one of the cutest pictures I think I've ever manage to take.
He reminds me of the baby from that tv show "Dinosaurs", you know, "I'm the baby!!!"
He had JUST gotten done eating. We used to hand feed him when he was a baby.
This is Pablo Honey (Radiohead album) my Rhacodactylus chahoua. He's all big now, but he was the most precious baby.
He's a professional bug hunter. He hunts better than ANY of my other geckos.
He takes his bugs SERIOUSLY.
And this is Svet, I've post his picture before. He's my pride and joy gecko.
He's beautiful.
I have 5 leos that I didn't post pics of.
I'm tired. |

Seriously cool reptile kids!
I love the names Pablo Honey is a great album!
I love the music theme for the names tres cool.
I think gekos are soo very cool too watch.
I nearly got hit in the face once by a very large Iguanas tail so behind glass for me is a good distance, or of course on someone else.
I am such a sissy.
But they are such neat critters, your pics are fantastic! |

Thanks, guys!!!
"Het" stands for heterozygous. It's a carried, but unseen gene, that geckos pass on to their offspring. It determines what morph you will get during breeding.

| Wow - those are some pretty guys! Prof. Orye looks like he is staring right into the camera. And little Crackity Jones is a doll! I used to have a group of skinks MANY years ago, but all they did was bury themselves in the sand - their enclosure looked empty! And I had 1 iguana, which I didn't like too much. Are you a breeder of these little guys? Please tell us (or PM me) what they are like as pets, & how difficult to care for. A friend of mine had some lovely bearded dragons who loved to be held - they were very soft, & not at all jitterly or slimey as some folks think. She gave them away when she got pregnant due to worrying about salmonella. Again, your critters are sweet! |

Thanks, guys!
Not hard to care for, really.
Rhacs do not need additional heating source, but leopard geckos do.
Rhacs have a few more cage accessories that leopard geckos do not need.
Leopard geckos are insectivores, while rhacs easily survive off Crested Gecko Diet.
I do LOVE my geckos a ton.
But, honestly?
They are not the most interactive creatures.
Don't get me wrong, they definitely CAN sit calmly or whatever, and look at you, but they'll never prefer human interaction.
I get that from my dog. |

They are BEAUTIFUL and sound really, REALLY cool!!! That's something I might like to have. I loooove Bearded Dragons, but they are a little too interactive. More than I have time for, with the feeding, exersizing, veggies, proteins, bugs, and the poop |
