It seems that not everyone is happy for Benjamin Barkalot to retire to a life of peaceful bee-keeping just yet, so I will soon be starting on The Curious Case of the Careless Countess.
Originally I was adamant that if I wrote another story I would make sure everything was planned out more carefully.
However I've since realised that I don't work that way, so instead I am going to take half an idea and run with it, like I did last time.
I do need a bit of help to get started, though:
Observant readers of the Sapphire Collar may have noticed that 'the city' is never explicitly named. Some of you may have assumed this was a well known writer's trick to allow the reader to project the action into familiar locations of their own city...but others will have correctly guessed that really I was unable to think of a satisfactory name for the city.
For the next story I am going to have to refer to the city by name, so I was rather hoping that some of you clever people could suggest a suitable name.
The name thaat most takes my fancy (Not Lady and the Tramp's Fancy!) will appear in the story, as will the dog who suggested it. |

I seem to recall two of them playing an important part in the last story.

Oddly enough I have just started reading my first Raymond Chandler novel, "The Lady in the Lake", and I have been amazed at how much his style has influenced my own considering I can only have picked it up second- and third-hand from other media. (Even down to Marlowe's smart alec one-liners: "I don't like your manner", "That's OK, I'm not selling it.") |

DOGCHESTER as opposed to MANCHESTER.
POOCHESTER (pooch, uk slang for dog, for across the pond who may not have heard it.)
PAWSFORD
Names suggested telepathically by "Celeste", my new hairless baby. Not with me for 3 weeks yet. |

Oh I am SO excited for this!! I cannot even wait to begin reading this, Davyde!! Thank you for continuing to share your creative genius with us. Truly.
Names - oh what fun! I'm going to be thinking on this but here's one that came to me off teh top of my head. If you are having it in a setting where there is a lot of fog and rain, you can always call it Withering Heights - you know....cresties wither in dampness! |

Taking a stab at this....could it be set in "Barkitaw" or "Pawville" (as opposed to Supermans Smallville), naw Pawville is probably to cutesy. What about "Tailegon". Ok admitedly I will not be the next literary discovery to rock the world but hey I took a stab!

That's true but it only gave them a taste of fame. They want more
Who knew??
How about Dog City? There really is such a place! Or perhaps Flea Port?
I do like Laura's suggestion of the "Naked City". Very good.
Still thinking.... |
