I just realized that at http://www.chinesecrested.no/en/, at the bottom left of every pedigree page it shows the COI (F) number for that dog! It was nice to see that many dogs are under the 6% recommended cap. Call me a geek, but I thought that was pretty neat. =)
btw, this is what the numbers mean:
F = 25 - parent/offspring or full brother/sister cross
12.5 - half brother/sister, grandparent/grandpup, or
double first cousins crosses
9.75 - great uncle or aunt/great niece or nephew cross
6.25 - first cousins
Here's an article I read about it recently that made be curious about it in the first place. Basically, the higher the COI, the more chance for genetic disease recessives to appear. We are blessed that Cresteds had such a strong genepool to start out with... some other breeds are not as fortunate. |
