HOW TO BECOME A BRITISH CHAMPION
First of all your dog must be registered at the Kennel Club in your name, before you can show it at anything other than a Companion show.
We have basically four different types of shows :-
Companion – enter on the day, for any breeds and crosses, dogs do not need to be registered… a fun day out raising money for charities, entry fees of £1-2 per class (CC and RCC winners cannot compete)
Limit - entered aprox 6 weeks in advance, may be limited by Breed, Location or by number of classes. Entry fees around £2 per class (CC and RCC winners cannot enter)
Open – entered 6 + weeks in advance, entry fees £3-5 per class, can be a single breed club, a group, or open to all breeds with some having separate classification, and others in variety classes.
Championship - Enter 6+weeks in advance, Entry fee £22-25 for first class, subsequent classes often at a reduced rate .Breed Club shows usually £5-10 per class. Each breed scheduled has its own classes, usually between 5 and 7 classes per sex at group or all breed shows. Single Breed Club shows often have up to 12 classes per sex, plus Brace, Team, Progeny, Bred by Exhibitor, Not Bred by Exhibitor and Handling classes.
To become a Champion you need to win 3 Challenge Certificates under 3 different judges, at least one after the age of 12 months.
CCs or tickets are awarded to the best of sex ,one each for Dogs and Bitches, at Championship shows only, not at open or limit shows.
The best of sex is selected from the unbeaten dogs ;ie class winners providing they have not been beaten in another class.
A reserve best of sex - Reserve Challenge Certificate - is also awarded , if the CC winner is disqualified the CC then goes to the RCC winner.
If the judge does not believe any of the dogs is worthy of the title of Champion, they can withhold the CC and RCC, but they must still declare a Best of Sex.
The Dog and Bitch then compete for Best of Breed.
BOB competes in the Group …. We have 4 places
Group winners …from the 7 groups, compete for BIS ..Best in Show.
Most of our General Championship shows are now held over 3 or 4 days, due to the large number of dogs entered, with one or two groups competing on each day; the winners of the groups on the previous days returning on the final day for BIS. |
