Sometimes a high red cell count or high hematocrit is the result of dehydration .. if there has been a lot of vomiting and diarrhea for a few days before the blood test was taken.

Yours seems like quite a high RBC count though - what was the final diagnosis?

Poor Elton.  I hope they get to the bottom of this soon and that it's something easy to fix.

need your help... we adopted an 8 month old Chinese crested / jack Russell mix about a month ago. she was a transfer from a Georgia shelter. she is now anemic. she had a blood test that showed her hemoglobin (I think) at 17.5% two days ago. and today she was at 17%. the vet is doing another test and will have results Monday but things don't sound too promising. hes suggesting a transfusion but still has to find out the source of the problem.  can anyone offer advice?
