A few months back I thought Abby's right eye look funny to me, a little bulgy. The vet suggested an ophthalmologist, but did say Abby had a cataract in her left eye.
Abby will be 12 this summer.
We went to the ophthalmologist yesterday and Abby has Nuclear Sclerosis in both eyes, which is a normal aging process. The right eye also has Corneal Endothelial Dystrophy. Which is another aging condition, but could turn into ulcers if left untreated. The endothelial cells are thinning which causes fluid to leak into the cornea, which gave an optical illusion that her eye was bulgy. I need to put a saline salve in her eye twice a day and we go back for a re-check in 4 months. The salve will take care of the extra fluid.
All this to say that the Dr said many times cataracts are diagnosed when the dog really has Nuclear Sclerosis.
