I love that pic: of her. She looks so well and relaxed. How does chemo: affect dogs? She obviously hasn't lost her hair as humans do. Who cares if she gains a little weight' date=' she's still beautiful and if she has a few days when she's off her food, (probably not something that affects Charm, especially if there's a sausage around, ) it will act as a buffer for her. Continuing the Crush vibes for her continued progress.[/QUOTE']Her hair has actually got noticably thinner. For a while it was quite dull and flat, but recently it has improved again. The chemo plays merry hell with her digestion, and we get 2 or 3 messy days in the week after her meds, but that's what we have mops and a Vax for. It's not her fault. She has a few melancholy days, but generally she is pretty happy and relaxed, although the steroids increase her appetite so she is even more food orientated than before!

I've decided to move updates back here from the "Very Bad News" thread in the hope that this new lump is just a setback and not the dire herald I first feared it was.I dropped Charm off to the vet this morning for her surgery. She was unhappy at missing breakfast, and not pleased at being left behind at the vet, but there is a packet of sausages with her name on in the fridge, so I am sure that will improve her mood when she gets home!Rie will be picking Charm up this afternoon, as I have a dentist appointment, so don't assume the worst if yo have to wait until tonight for an update.Charm, Dizzy and Lily had a really good afternoon in the forest yesterday. They did lots of exploring and got delightfully muddy.(Opal opted out of the trip and we decided against trying to navigate Rosie through the marshy ground - we will take her out for her own special walk this weekend)In other news, Rie saw her new cardiologist yesterday (Not sure she'll thank me for putting this in this particular sub-folder!) She is very happy because he is going to get the ball rolling for her to have reconstructive/cosmetic surgery to even up her boobs and cover the scarring from her heart op.

Sending heaps of Crush, healing/safe surgery/non icky lump vibes for Charm. The promise of the sausages in the fridge will bring her home safely. Hope all goes well for you at the dentist. Great news for Rie and the boob fix. Can't see she'd mind you putting it in this area, as it's plastered all over face book where several million peeps can see it.

Sending vibes for Charm's surgery to be simple and straight forward. Hopefully her sausage feast will help make up for a day spent at the vet. As for Rie, that is great news! New "girls" yippee!

I've had a message from Rie. Charm is now safely back at home. Sleepy, and feeling a bit sorry for herself, but otherwise fine.::D:
Great news for Rie and the boob fix. Charm has now been back home for a few days. The surgery went well, but Charm is taking a while to get back to her old self. To be fair, Rie and I forget that our 'little girl' is now actually a mature lady of twelve years old; it's not surprising that she feels a bit sorry for herself. That said, the wound does not seem to be paining her at all, and it certainly hasn't stopped her running up and down the stairs, or jumping on the bed.She has had an upset stomach since the op, but we think that is probably a combination of the trauma, the drugs, and her weakened immune system. We take it as a good sign that last night she decided to give Opal a Damn Good Wash (whether she wanted one or not!)

Aw, Charm has to be feeling better to help Opal with her washings. Its easy to forget when our babies age because they will always be our babies. I have to remind myself that Niles is 13 and not 3 anymore.

So happy to hear Charm is recovering, albeit a little slower than you'd like. Time flies, and before you know it, our puppies are pensioners. Sending her lots of hugs and healing Crush vibes.

A bit of a mixed update this time.

Today Charm had her Chemo, but it was long overdue.
She should have had it early to mid December, but when I went to pick it up from the vet, we found out that the tablets she had been taking have been discontinued, so our vet was investigating an alternative. Then the vet Mr Lafferty was taken into hospital for a long term digestive problem. Very sadly he passed away in the week before Christmas.

Becki, the other vet, then took over organising Charm's new regime, but she was quite understandably rushed off her feet trying to keep the practice up and running over Christmas. Although Mr Lafferty had identified the new drug in his notes, he had not written down the dosage that Charm requires. Becki tried contacting other vets in the area, but they were unable to advise her. It was only today that she finally managed to get hold of the oncologist who gave her the required dosage (ironically, it is exactly the same as for the old drug).

The experts Becki spoke to were all astonished that Charm has done as well as she has. Apparently this sort of cancer normally spreads aggressively through the body, yet so far Charm has only had two lumps, both in the same place.

The not-so-good news is that Charm has not been at her best over the last few days. her digestion has been playing her up (although at least part of that is probably due to Christmas over-indulgence), but today she has been a bit wobbly on her back legs. We will keep a close eye on this, and we're hoping that today's Chemo will help, but I cannot deny we are concerned.

Put a sane man alone in a room with a teacosy, and it is only a matter of time until he puts it on his head.
