#320125 Ups And I Are Going To Be Related, Sort Of...

Posted by Ace on 30 October 2014 - 10:04 PM

We are going to welcome Kate's new baby's sister, Avery the powderpuff, to our home this weekend!  Kate will be picking her up when she gets her Izzy and we will meet up in Columbus on Sunday to get our little puffball.

We are sooooo excited to welcome her into the fold here.  And very proud to own one of Chelsey's Klearly babies.  She will be shown also (mostly by Chelsey) so the girls will get to see each other a few times.

So, here is Avery, Klearly Pretty is as Pretty Does.

#316972 Proudly Presenting My New Baby!!!

Posted by Crazydowg on 19 April 2014 - 04:29 PM

It is with joy in my heart that I'm presenting Fiston to you, my new little rascal! (Pronounced Feaston and that means young son).

He is soooooo full of energy and outgoing! He is very intelligent, almost potty trained, he responded real quick to his name and to recalls. He likes playing at retreiving toys that I throw at him, he did this naturally since the very first time.

Now I can say that I've got 3 CCs! Woot Woot!! I've always dreamt of having a white pink spotted CC and that's what he is! He's got all that I love the most! Besides being white pink spotted, he's got the most magnificent BIG bunny ears and such a cute little white face with just a few tiny beauty spots, dark heart shaped nose, beautiful small dark eyes and he's gonna have wonderful furnishings! He's gonna be on the small size, between 5 and 7 pounds. Right now is is 13 weeks old and weighs 2.8 lbs. He's got an adorable personnality too.

I am so happy with my 3 babies, they're all I ever wanted! We got him since April 6th and he adjusted pretty quick. Gaila accepted him right away and she just adores him, they are best friends. They stick together all the time. They play all the time, sleep together, sun bath together. I am so amazed by her because being the dominant one, she usually don't share her space and stuff. She is very tolerant of him and she's even possessive of him, like he is her toy, her playing resource. She doesn't want Minnie to play with him, that is soooooo fascinating!

Minnie, being timid and shy didn't want to have nothing to do with him but she's warming up a little as days goes by. And Angelino my Birman is such a good sport as always.

Well, I just LOVE the 3 pack energy, it's gonna be fun fun fun!!! Euh, I should say 4 pack including the cat. Hehe! I am soooooooo happy happy happy!!

#320617 Pics From Izzy's Sweeps And Match Show 1/25/15

Posted by Ups N Downs on 26 January 2015 - 01:04 PM

Here are some pics!  We won the 3-6 month bitch sweeps and was the judge's second pic for the toy group.  She said she really liked Izzy!  We were the only ones in our match class, so we won by default, lol!  Izzy was great, she needs more exposure and experience, but that will come with time.

Posted by PrincessFifi on 18 December 2013 - 07:58 PM

I though I'd give a quick update for everyone on Fifi. She is doing very well and is completely back to normal :) She was so skinny when we finally got her back I was afraid it was going to be hard to put the weigh back on, but within 3 weeks she had just about all of it back! I was amazed! Anywho, she is back to her same ol silly, crazy, lovable self :) Here's pics I took of her week by week....
And the last pic is from a week or so ago, Fifi warming her tosh by the fire :)

#320578 Welcome Home, Paris!

Posted by Laura on 25 January 2015 - 05:18 AM

Many here already know about Paris and her story, but I'll share it here.  Last fall, a Facebook friend tagged me on a post from a shelter in Lodi that was desperately looking for a foster home for a "Chinese Crested."  She was an owner surrender; her family was in upheaval due to divorce and the living situation made it difficult for either of the partners to keep her.

I'd been hoping to foster and when I looked at her picture, I felt like I had to take action.  The picture just showed her face, but even from that I was pretty sure she was no Chinese Crested.

I applied to be her foster mom and ended up driving to Lodi (about an hour drive) to go and get her.  At 4 lbs and fully coated with a terrier-type coat, she was definitely no crested.  What she was was terrified, shaking, feeble, and unhappy.  Breed-wise, she looked like a cross between a chihuahua and a small terrier.

A couple of hours later she was home with us.

Paris explored the house and then settled in for a long night of rest.  At first she ate little, and seemed very tired.  Her owners had dropped her off with some food-- crap food-- and said that she "eats like a bird."  I soon discovered that she'd eat like a little pig if I gave her decent food that she liked.

Paris had something odd about her; one of her feet seemed much larger than the others and I called the rescue and we scheduled an appointment with their vet.  Long story short, the vet removed the growth and pathology confirmed that it was a mast cell tumor--cancer.  Unfortunately, the location meant that there was so little tissue they were not able to get clear margins and are pretty sure they did not get all of the cancer cells.  It's likely she still has some cancer cells there.  She also had a big mess in her mouth and they removed several teeth.

The good news is that her cancer was not growing aggressively at the time of the pathology, so we have all adopted a wait-and-see approach to her.

There was a family interested in adopting her that seemed perfect.  Once they learned of the cancer, they never called back for her.  By then, Rick and I were thoroughly taken by this little girl.  She has blossomed into a spunky little spitfire who loves life, has plenty of energy and likes to play.  She loves her good food and she has gained two pounds.   She has a spunky personality but she also likes to snuggle and cuddle-- on her own terms. She likes to curl up next to my tummy at night.

The surgery site has healed well and so far there is no additional new growth there.  She could have six months or six years.  We'll take what we get.

Of course, with the cancer and the fact that we love her, we realized we could not leave her fate to fate, and so today she officially became a part of our pack.

Pictures?  You can see lots of pictures on her Facebook Page:  Paris Needs a Forever Home.

She doesn't need a forever home anymore though.  She's found one.

Welcome home, Paris!

#315428 Powder Puff Or Hairless ????

Posted by **Shannon** on 10 February 2014 - 05:11 PM

Ok everyone...I have some news.  I originally posted this thread because when we first went to the breeder to see the puppies we had a hard time choosing between the PP or HL, although we went there strictly for a HL.  We really did fall in love with two of them one HL and one PP.  Then we teetered on getting both and then I got cold feet and said NO WAY, one baby at a time is enough.

We have visited every week for the past 7 weeks and on the second visit the breeder said "I sold another puppy" (because each time we talked I would ask her if anyone had inquired yet besides my husband and I), of course I asked which one and she said "It's the male PP that you love so much".  I told her I knew he would be the next to go because he is just the cutest little guy ever.  WELLLLL......while visiting yesterday (we spent four hours there) my husband was awfully clingy to the Male PP that we loved so much but did not choose.  I was playing with Dexter our HL baby and most the time we visit I kind of just focus on Dexter.  I couldn't understand why Ed (my hubby) was cuddling so much with that one particular PP.  So, as he is holding the Male PP....he says "I have a surprise for you, Happy early Birthday, I bought you this little guy too!!"  I couldn't believe it!!  For weeks now he and the breeder had known and said nothing.  He couldn't resist not telling me any longer.  The breeder even went as far as telling me a couple days ago that she told the "people" that bought him that I am good with picking names and was asking me for suggestions claiming that the "people" couldn't decide on a name.  This way whatever name I gave her she was going to begin to call him that so he could get used to it.  So no more wondering which one to get....I am the proud Mommy of one of each :)  NOW to come up with another name....which made me crazy when deciding on Dexter.  I can NOT wait to post pics for all of you.  They were just 7-weeks yesterday so I have one more week before I can post their pics.  I love them both so much.  I can't wait until them come home!!

#315147 First Time Owner Questions About Rufio

Posted by Chelsey on 03 February 2014 - 01:02 AM

There is no such thing as a "Hollywood" crested. There is one kind of crested, and that is a Chinese crested as defined by the AKC standard in this country. If someone sold you something marketed as some "special" kind of crested then I can say with 100% certainty that that person is not a reputable breeder. Do you have the pedigree for your crested? Is it registered with AKC? Judging from the picture I would bet my house that he is a mix. I am sorry that you were taken in by a less than scrupulous breeder. This is why there needs to be more education on what to look for in a good breeder! Good breeders health test their dogs for genetic diseases, not just take them to the vet for shots. In our breed the main things are getting a yearly eye CERF on breeding dogs, making sure they are PLL and PRA clear (which is done through a blood test) That way these terrible eye diseases are not being spread to the next generation. Good breeders work with strong, known peidgrees and show their dogs in conformation events to show that they are good breeding stock. They sell their dogs on spay/neuter contracts so that people are not buying their dogs and just breeding them to make more dogs. Good breeders always take back their puppies so that they never end up in shelters or rescues. It is A LOT of work and money to be a REPUTABLE breeder and most people would rather just put a couple dogs together and sell them for as much as they can get not caring what issues they might be breeding into those puppies. I can promise you if someone is breeding the right way they are not making money off their puppies and they certainly aren't trying to con someone into buying a puppy by calling it a "Hollywood" crested. Whatever the heck that is supposed to mean.

As for studding your dog out. Just love him as a pet and get him fixed. There are too many dogs in shelters and rescues that need homes. Please leave the breeding to the people who are trying to improve the breed and are willing to health test and show their dogs before breeding them. Congrats on your new addition! Love him and enjoy him because he is a great little guy and will be a great pet, no need for any more expectations than that!

Hairless, all 3 of mine are hairless and I love them to death! I'm a skin person though, I love petting their skin and kissing their skin, lol! I know it sounds creepy but I'm sure the other hairless people can vouch for me, hahahaha! I guess it's a so you prefer hair or skin kind of thing.

#314412 Dear Internet

Posted by Madcaphound on 14 January 2014 - 09:13 PM

Hello Interent!

I came to you for advice on picking out the perfect smaller dog for our family! I spent over a year doing research - though I know it isn't all your fault internet. Some of it falls onto the dog people at dog shows and the owners of dogs that I talked to!

I was assured that Chinese Crested were lower energy little dogs. That they were lap babies and didn't need require the amount of exercise that for example a Bouvier puppy requires.

Dear lovely internet - I am here to tell you that you are WRONG.  Oh fount of information! how very wrong you are.  My two crested puppies have exactly two modes:  10,000 miles an hour and asleep.  They can go from one mode to the other in a split second as I have actually wittnessed them falling asleep in mid run.

It is a good thing they are incredibly adorable otherwise I would be tempted to have them stuffed.

#313613 Thank You From Bare Paws Rescue To Crush

Posted by My Crestie on 24 December 2013 - 03:35 PM

Dear Crush,
We wanted to let you all know how very much we appreciate being included in the Secret Santa.
I am touched that so many people care about our little foster dogs.  Now each of them have wonderful
possessions of their very own to take to their forever homes when they go.  It is a big deal to these little
dogs, after having so little in their previous lives, and it is a big deal to us too, that so many caring people
open their hearts to these little ones and do something so nice for them.  You are a phenomenal group, and
I just wanted to let you know that we appreciate all you have done so very much.  Wishing you all a very
Merry Christmas, and a wonderful 2014. Thank you all.
Warm regards,

Why do you think we have a whole forum devoted to their worship?  There is a saying around here that these are potato chip dogs-- you simply cannot have just one.  They do work their magic and work their way into the heart, in no time at all.  So glad you are enjoying your little ones!
