View Full Version : Lump under skin?
Louise has a small lump under her skin on her back. There is no zit or anything, but that is what it feels like. Any ideas what this might be? It is below her shoulder blades and there is no bump on top of it. Do we need to visit the vet? She doesn't act like it is sore :?: She hasn't had any shots there, either....

I would definitely keep an eye on it. But sometimes a large zit will fester under the skin for awhile and kinda feel lumpy before it decides to make an appearance. Let us know if there are any changes!
Krissy also has one very hard cyst under the skin that probably started out sometime as a whitehead but not visible. It has been there for over 2 1/2 years and I don't know if it will ever go away. She has had one other that did resolve on its own. If she gets any whiteheads or blackheads it may be that. I would watch it carefully.

Are you sure this isn't a microchip?
It could be a micro chip as hlboyz mentioned. I have cysts (ganglion ones that I had removed - several times- on my wrists) with one on my arm... harmless stupid things. Sometimes they grow, sometimes they don't. I'd have the vet feel it and see what they think it is. If it is moveable-ish, it's probably a cyst. Still best to get any lump (that isnt an easily identifiable pimple) checked out.
Also- just out of curiosity- could she have bumped into something somehow and gotten a lump from that? Morgan once rammed into the wall here and had a lump on her thigh for days!
It could be a number of things- check with the vet and let us know!!
I know it isn't a microchip. Maybe she did bump into something. She's been playing hard with the cat on our back deck. I'm checking it this evening. If it isn't any better, I'm taking her to the vet tomorrow. Thanks guys!

I have noticed a lump in Dargo's kneck which is squishy and movable just under his ear right on his kneck. I'm hoping it's a cyst, but does anyone know if it could be a swollen gland from changing his diet? I was thinking maybe a food allergy caused the gland to swell. I can only feel it when he turns his head a certain way. I'm scared to take him to the vet in fear of the worst, but I'm booking an appointment Monday morning. He's only 14 months, so I am hoping he's too young for cancer. It's not a pimple, I know that for sure. Has this happened to anyone before. I sure hope it's nothing. It's not painful to him. Shell.
Lana, Dargo once had a little lump on his tummy. It was very hard and small and just disapeared 3 months later. To this day, I still don't know what it was exactly. Just glad it went away on it's own.
It's probably nothing to worry about, but you're right to get it checked out straight away. He could have a slight infection that's making one of his glands swell, best nipped in the bud, whatever it is. Many curable things become incurable because they are left too long for fear of what they could be.

Vino has a lump on the left side of his neck that has been there for months and months.....when I first noticed it is was much larger. I took him to the vet and they believed it could possibly have been from a vaccine and they measured it and we recheck it periodically and document the size. It is movable and you can almost pick it up under the skin if you know what I mean. It has shrunk with time and bothers him not in the least when messed with and stuff so we are just leaving it alone. I am the first one to run to my vet :) so I agree a vet visit first. Hopefully there will be a simple explanation and no worries. :fingerscrossed:
Shell - let us know how Dargo is after the vet visit. We will all be sending good thoughts.

Go figure. Stressed all weekend over this lump. Woke up this morning to call the vet, the lump is gone. I'll keep an eye on it of course, just incase it comes back. Thank you for all your help. Shell. :D
Well, that is better news than any other! Hope it stays gone for good.

Hi DE. Thank you for always being there. Unless it's behind his eyeballs, I can't find it. I think I'm being tested from up above on how much I can take. Just wish the guy upstairs would leave Dargo out of it. That's just too stressfull. Shell.

Squishy moveable lumps usually are just benign cysts.
My old American Bulldog had all kinds of them. They'd last for a few years or a few months. Some would eventually get irritated, and open and drain, others we had removed while she was in for a teeth cleaning.
One by her shoulder blade was actually a fat lump and continued to grow until it was about the size of a half a baseball. That was one that we had removed because it was sad to look at, and it was in the area where her collar rubbed.
Anywhoo. I wouldn't be too worried, unless you find a hard, unmoveable lump, but it's always better to be safe than sorry.
 Good news, lumps are a real pain as you imagine every worst thing they could be, then they burst or vanish.

Well, the lump came back and Dargo was taken to the vet Saturday morning. The lump is a swollen gland and it is also swollen on the other side now. The vet did an eye test, blood work and $345.00 later, thinks it's an infection or allergy. He's on antibiotics, and worming pills, as sometimes worms are a cause of infection. We still don't know the cause but I'm thinking an allery to a new food I have added to his diet. He looks like a normal healthy dog other than the swollen glands.
I hate putting him on medication when we don't know the reason, but I'm at ease knowing its nothing too serious. Shell.

Thank you Indie's mom. He's doing much better. The lumps are going down.I took pasta out of his diet so that may have been something he was allergic to.
You once mentioned that "Win" my dad's pup, looks alot like Cashey. He sent me a photo saying "look at how beautiful this dog is", and it was Cashey! He thought Cashey looks alot like Win too.
:) Shell.
